the myth of the great idea

I grew up believing that there are million dollar ideas. If I could just think of one and be there first that I could be living the good life! I thought that ideas were worth something. Of course we’re taught that romantic perspective of great ideas… You even hear people say, “I had that idea! I could have been a millionaire!”

It turns out great ideas don’t really do anything. A great or even EARTH SHATTERING idea will not make you wealthy.

What I didn’t understand was that a great idea requires so much more.

A great idea requires…
effective implementation.
a sustainable model.
a vision for it’s future.
relentless pursuit, in the face of extreme adversity.
the right people to grow and cultivate it.
and MORE.

I believe great ideas are extraordinarily overrated. Why? Because when you align yourself with the kind of work you can truly believe in, the kind of work that fills you to the core with real passion.

The last thing you need is a great idea.

you aren’t

It used to be that you could just pick something anything a (profession/career/business) where your skills best served you and enter that business space and “do well.”

Some people can still do that (not many), but one thing I can speak to directly is that the few who can still pull it off ARE NOT: happy, fulfilled, living their bliss, loving their space.

WHY?!

Because you aren’t:

your previous job/business
your skills
your expertise
the thing people think you are (tell you to be/know you as)

Somehow, someway we’ve completely forgotten why we do what we’ve been doing and auto pilot has kicked in and we just approach things in such a mundane and systematic “drone style”  zombie-walk.

When you’re in alignment with your vocation you know it, and in THAT space you create things that: matter, burn you with insight, and fulfill you in ways money (ego) never could.
