distinguishing between busy and productive

As an entrepreneur you might not have a more important task than understanding the true difference between being busy and being productive. It’s an illusion that you must strip away quick or you’re going to blow a lot of time, energy, effort, and money pretending to struggle in a business or endeavor you probably never truly started to begin with.

All the research in the world, studying, and ramping up – equates to nothing when it comes to getting results (typically). Hey – we all do it. Just don’t trick yourself into believing you’ve been productive. THAT is where we make our biggest mistake. The last thing the world needs is another fake entrepreneur walking around upset at his results when he never really did anything.

Those shoes cause blisters… I should know, I’ve got a pair in my closet that I wear from time to time.

Expectations… the killer of what MIGHT be

killer of expectationsIt occurred to me the other day, after experiencing a series of “ok” results, not great, not fantastic… just ok.

The old Mike, the one that easily questions things, is never satisfied, and always too hard on himself Mike. That Mike would have taken his expectations (which weren’t met) and used them to validate a reason to stop doing what he was doing, get discouraged and possibly just move on to something else.

It’s quite funny you see… the actions we take even when they’re “right on the money” don’t typically yield us the return they can without the discipline of consistency and even some time lag mixed in.

Blindly taking great steps in the direction of our greatest possibilities without receiving tangible validation isn’t always easy…

THIS is why I suggest calling your expectations over for dinner one last time and feed’em the oldest play in the book, “it’s not you… it’s me.”

the king of "act now"I couldn’t just lay down and fall asleep tonight. (I tried…)

Starting a new business has completely changed everything for me right now. It just so happened that my desperate plea to the universe to bring about: creating a business that matters, building it MY way, and to also facilitate a kick-ass community around it (this is my absolute dream business) — is taking off.

I have zero intention of bragging, puffing up my chest, or patting myself on the back by saying this. I ONLY bring this up because as I reflect back it would have been SOOO EASY for me NOT to have gone through the motions to bring about this new business and create what is now completely in motion.

Specifically if I didn’t step up and act right away, while my emotion/internal urge was hot.

Looking back I can put my finger on four (4) exact times in my life that I’ve had this burning urge but didn’t act on it. I didn’t take the steps forward required to build up enough “steam” and I definitely wasn’t consistent. I did what most realistic people do every day.

I put it on the shelf.

Here’s a few things I did and it changed everything

  • Act now, not later.
  • Surround yourself with the right people. (tribe)
  • Get inspired by something (a process, routine, or ritual) and incorporate it into your daily life.
  • Launch before you’re ready.
