you will get knocked down

No problem.

You’re going to eat shit. That’s fine.

It’s going to affect you. Ok.

No one is immune to this. We all feel and experience it. Lets talk about a few things NOT to do when this happens…

1. Don’t draw conclusions about yourself or your chances at getting to where you desire.
This is the WORST time to start chalking up reasons to quit or stop doing what you’re doing. That voice in your head is NOT your friend.

2. Get back in the game ASAP.
You’ll make yourself miserable the longer you delay getting back into action. Start doing SOMETHING, ANYTHING to get the wheels spinning in the right direction.

3. Don’t take it personally.
Remind yourself that it’s a privileged to live your life in the direction of your dreams. There’s always more work to do and endless amounts of growth to achieve. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

so much noise

Everyday it’s harder to focus on getting great work done.

Beyond the usual suspects (Facebook, family, random distractions, etc.) we’re having more content then ever being thrown at us at ever increasing speeds. There’s important work to be done, we know it, but selecting what action to take and when is also something you certainly have to learn for yourself – not many teach this skill. Even better, those who have learned how to prioritize can certainly regurgitate the urgent vs important philosophy, but I bet being a fly on their wall would show you just how close they actually emulate those effective habits (my guess is not often).

Even if you can get past the noise today and make some great decisions/take great actions – do you do this every day or are you like most – when you’re feeling good you do good when you’re not you play hooky or just stay “busy”? If this is you, its OK, but just so you’re clear these habits will NOT get you to where you truly want to be.

Here’s what I suggest…

1. Block out an hour a day. (uninterrupted time, sooner in the day the better)
2. Commit to completing exactly three actions. (average 20min per action)
3. Get support. (choose a friend/coach/mentor who can keep you accountable)

We built a process centered around this call MIGHT. We believe in a better way to do the work.
Here’s a better break down we deliver via email (if you subscribe it gets sent to you automatically).

some days just suck

Inevitably you’re going to experience days that just suck. You wake up not “feeling it” and maybe you get some bad news on top of it all, almost taunting you as if to say, “this day is not for you, bitch.” These things can snowball and after this point we’re just looking for things we can point to and say, “SEE, this day is just mocking me now…”

–>There’s good news here.

First, every single human being on this planet without exception goes through this. You’re not alone nor are you unique in this. (No matter how convincing some people sound/look from stage or on FB)

Second, there’s no such thing as always being excited, happy, and prepared and ready to conquer the world – people that sell this line of thinking and living (or as I like to call it, bullshit) are setting you up for delusion and fallacy. I could certainly get into how crazy this line of thinking really is, but let’s just say that perfection in and of itself is a horrible existence (dull and meaningless) – How could you define “good” without “bad?” Instead don’t strive for perfection, strive for improvement.

Let’s talk about a few things you can do to move through these feelings:

1. Motion creates emotion. -Ben Affleck in Boiler Room - Action, the act of doing and finishing small simple tasks will turn the tide for you. Guaranteed.
2. Don’t dwell on the problem, look towards the solution. This is the time to shift your focus from the things that are happening that you don’t want and move your thinking and energy towards what you desire instead. (Side note: stop complaining and sharing your problems with others – being a victim gets you no where and shining a spotlight on your problems only adds to the illusion that they are hard to overcome. Don’t feed your problems, unless you want to live with them longer. Add blame into the mix and you can easily see why people stay stuck for long stretches at a time.)
3. Change your scene. If you’re not happy in your office, go for a walk. If you work at home, go to a coffee shop for a few hours. When you shift your location your energy tends to shift as well.

It takes time and a certain level of trained emotional maturity to start a shitty day and end strong but you  absolutely can. Friends, you can own your day, no matter what. As it turns out, I have personally achieved some of my biggest pushes in my business on the start of some really shit poor days.

In any race worth competing, it’s not how you start that matters… it’s how you finish.
